First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa

Out of concern for the physical health and safety of our congregation and wider community, our church gatherings are discontinued until further notice.

    The Story

Love God and love your neighbor. Jesus made it sound simple, but we know it’s not. So each day we learn what this means through celebrations, how we choose to grow, express care, and serve our community and beyond. The story of our church is a story of ever-deepening relationships.

How Essential is Church? ~ Themes from the Pastoral Letters
    2020 Spring Sermon Series

    How Essential is Church?

In a concerted effort to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, worship has been postponed and church buildings closed worldwide to observe social distancing and health precautions. The fact that only essential services and businesses are to remain open leads to the question—How Essential is Church?

Late in his ministry, the Apostle Paul sent two colleagues, Timothy to Ephesus and Titus to Crete to ensure the faith and faithfulness of the churches in each place. He wrote three letters telling them what he considered essential about church: everything from transmitting the gospel from one generation to another; combating distortions of Christian faith and teaching; providing an organizational structure with qualified leadership; describing the role of women in ministry; and articulating proper Christian conduct within the household of God.

    Worship with Us Online!

The priority of our church is to worship God while maximizing the safety of our congregation and community. There are many indications that we have a long road ahead of us (related to health risks of the coronavirus) before we fully return to in-person worship in our sanctuary, and that we are “only in the first inning of a long, nine-inning game.”

To ensure safety, First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa will continue on-line worship and not shift to in-person, outdoor, or car worship, at this time. We will thoughtfully and carefully plan for re-opening the church once, rather than have to close down a church function previously opened.
